sad1 — Schizosaccharomyces pombe 972h-
Summary
The fission yeast gene sad1 (SPBC12D12.01) on chromosome 2 encodes a SUN-domain protein (SUN1-5 family) with spindle pole body–nuclear membrane anchor activity and protein membrane adaptor activity with bridging activity. It is a component of the Sad1-Kms1 LINC complex and localises to the inner plaque of the mitotic spindle pole body, the nuclear inner membrane, and meiotic spindle poles. sad1 is associated with mitotic nuclear envelope breakdown, meiotic telomere clustering and attachment of telomeric heterochromatin to the spindle pole body, chromosome attachment to the nuclear envelope, astral microtubule organisation, spindle pole body insertion into the nuclear envelope, centromere clustering, karyogamy, spore wall assembly, and microtubule nucleation.
