MEA — Arabidopsis thaliana

Summary

AT1G02580, also known as MEA, MEDEA, FIS1, or SDG5, is a SET-domain-containing protein and a component of Polycomb group (PcG) protein complexes. It is associated with DNA imprinting, endosperm cellularization, seed growth, and regulation of seed development. It has been linked to numerous traits including seed volume, plant female sterility, hybrid incompatibility, yield, heterosis, leaf morphology, flower development, photoperiod sensitivity, and sucrose content. MEA is also associated with peroxisome proliferation, organelle fission, nuclear DNA replication, and negative regulation of transcription. Studies of related genes in other species link the family to leaf water potential, fruit firmness, root branching, and disease resistance.
