The product has glucan endo-1,3-beta-D-glucosidase activity and is associated with IgE binding. This protein localizes to the apoplast and extracellular space. It is associated with defense responses, including defense against fungi and killing of cells of other organisms, as well as response to abscisic acid, signal transduction, the TCA cycle, and phenylpropanoid anabolism. The gene has also been connected to grain yield. Studies of related genes in other species link the family to glucan endo-1,3-beta-glucosidase activity (EC 3.2.1.39).
